Alright, so I know Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and you’re stressing out about what to do for your lady (or man)! You’ve cooked a nice romantic meal and you don’t bake… Not to worry though because I’ve got a great dessert idea to end your evening just right. A Beer Flo

Beer Floats are nothing new but with the incredible craft beers that are being brewed, beer floats are making a big comeback. All you need is a champagne glass, ice cream, and of course the most important ingredient BEER! I’m not talking about the “Mainstream” beers like a Budweiser or Coors that you see on TV, to make a great beer float you’re going to need Craft Beer. If your date is a fan of fruity desserts, try a scoop of vanilla ice cream with your favorite fruit lambic beer, Lindemans has many different flavors like apple or raspberry. Or if you’re looking for a chocolaty  malty taste, try a scoop of chocolate ice cream and your favorite Porter or Stout like Stone Smoked Porter. Get creative! Try using one of your favorite ice cream flavors and mixing it with different types of craft beer.

If you decide to use a higher alcohol beer try simmering the brew for about an hour to reduce the alcoholic content. This also has the benefit of adding unique flavors that enhance the overall taste. Here’s a few tasting tips, for vanilla ice cream stick with a fruity style beer, and for chocolate ice cream go with a darker beer. If you’re using a fruity beer try to avoid ice cream with fruit flavors as this will over power the flavors in the beer and taste to strong. The darker beer will have a stronger malt flavor which will complement the chocolate ice cream very nicely.
